Derek was raised just outside Chapel Hill, NC and studied philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
He started his real estate sales career on the Carolina coast, learning the fundamentals of luxury home and land sales as a broker’s assistant working for one of the largest lifestyle community developers in coastal North Carolina. He quickly established himself as a licensed broker and worked with some of the area’s top developers on various real estate projects. During this time, he learned the multiple facets of real estate development, from land acquisition and due diligence to concept branding, marketing and selling.
In the spring of 2008, Derek was hired to work for a new master-planned development in Banner Elk. Upon visiting for the first time, he immediately fell in love with the area. Having developed a great appreciation for extraordinary real estate, the High Country was a dream come true.
In June of 2015, Derek joined Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, with a focus on establishing the leading luxury real estate group in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Derek enjoys the numerous outdoor activities the North Carolina High Country offers and also has a passion for music and animal rescue, serving on The Board of Directors with The Avery County Humane Society. He is committed to making himself and The Mountain Group at Premier Sotheby’s International Realty an industry leader in service and to redefining luxury in the North Carolina High Country.
